Sylvester Stallone Signs Production Deal with Amazon Studios To Develop Films and TV Projects
Sylvester Stallone and his production company Balboa Productions have signed a first-look production deal with Amazon Studios. Under the multi-year deal, Stallone will write, direct, produce, and star in a number of film and television projects both scripted and unscripted.
The project that Stallone develops will stream on Prime Video and the movies that are made will likely get a theatrical release first. He’s already started his first project, which is a genre film titled Scavenger Hunt, which is being written and directed by Elle Callahan (Witch Hunt).
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon and MGM Studios said in a statement: “Sylvester Stallone is an undeniable Hollywood legend who has created some of the most timeless and iconic characters of our generation. As an actor, writer, director, and producer, he has defined his own epic brand of storytelling and inspired people all over the world. We are excited to continue our relationship with Sylvester and Balboa Productions to bring even more of his exciting creative vision to our global audiences.”
Stallone and his business partner Braden Aftergood said: “We are thrilled to partner with Amazon to create new film and television projects. Having the opportunity to work closely with the talented creative teams at Amazon and MGM will further propel the incredible momentum of Balboa Productions.”
I wonder if this means that Stallone will attempt to get his other Rocky projects off the ground. A few months ago he shared details on his Rocky 7 movie, which featured Rocky “trying to fight for the neighborhood that made him and that he still loves."
Another movie idea involved Rocky meeting “a young, angry person who got stuck in this country when he comes to see his sister. He takes him into his life, and unbelievable adventures begin, and they wind up south of the border. It’s very, very timely.”
He also has an idea for a Rocky prequel series. Stallone has been openly fighting for the rights to the Rocky franchise for some time. He’s very bitter about how they are behind controlled, but maybe this new deal will help the situation.
Regardless, Stallone has got a great deal in place and I hope that he ends up creating some great content!
