Taika Waititi Is Still Figuring Out His STAR WARS Movie and Is "Throwing Everything at the Wall"

I don’t know about you, but I’m curious and excited about what Taika Waititi is going to bring to the Star Wars movie he’s making. His Star Wars film is the next one that Lucasfilm is going to release, but we’ve still got a long way to go as the filmmaker is still trying to figure out the story that he wants to tell.

Waititi has previously explained that he is looking to create something new with the franchise and expand the universe beyond all of the characters and locations that we’re familiar with. He said at the time:

“Look, I think for the Star Wars universe to expand, it has to expand. I don’t think that I’m any use in the Star Wars universe making a film where everyone’s like, ‘Oh great, well that’s the blueprints to the Millennium Falcon, ah that’s Chewbacca’s grandmother.’ That all stands alone, that’s great, though I would like to take something new and create some new characters and just expand the world, otherwise it feels like it’s a very small story.”

He offered another update on the project in a recent interview with /Film, and when asked if he found it difficult to bring his brand of comedy to the Star Wars universe. In his response he says that he hasn’t finished writing the script and that he’s “still throwing everything at the wall”:

"No. No, I'm able to kind of bring my tone. At the moment it's just very early, because I ... still haven't even finished the script. I'm still trying to come up with ideas and I'm mostly kind of in that part of the process where it's still very kind of open. And when I write, I kind of write every idea I've ever had and then start to kind of chisel it down into something. But I'm still throwing everything at the wall right now.”

It’ll be cool to see how he takes the ideas that stick to the wall and forms them into a Star Wars story. Waititi has wild ideas and a crazy fun sense of humor, and I have no idea what that style is going to look like in the Star Wars universe. We’ll find out soon enough!
