Taika Waititi Says It Would Be a "Crime Against Humanity" Not to Include the Nude Thor Scene in THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER
Ever since the release of the most recent trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, fans have been talking about the scene in which the character Zeus, played by Russell Crowe, has Thor (Chris Hemsworth) chained to a platform with spectators surrounding it.
Thor is wearing a hooded cloak, and Zeus says, “Let’s see who you are. I take off your disguise. And flick!” With this, he flicks his wrist, pointing at Thor, accidentally flicking off all of the God of Thunder’s clothes. The crowd gasps, and Thor yells, “You flicked too hard, dammit!” People start fainting, and Jane (Natalie Portman) asks Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) if they should help him, to which Valkyrie responds, “I mean, eventually,” then she offers her a grape.
It’s a pretty hilarious scene, and it has garnered a lot of attention for the obvious reason that Hemsworth is totally naked! While recently talking to ComicBook about his role in Lightyear, the film’s director Taika Waititi was asked about the scene, and he said:
"We all knew we wanted to do it from very early on. That was in the first draft of the script actually and Chris was on board as well. You know, I think you have a body like Chris, like, you know, even he understands. It would be just, it would be a waste to not show it off. It would be a crime against humanity. So, you know, it's, you have to provide for the masses."
Waititi is so much fun, and he has brought such a lightness to the Thor film franchise. He has not yet commented on whether this will be his last Thor movie, and Hemsworth said this could be his last Marvel outing, but we will know more once we see what the movie holds for us.
Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8th, and tickets are available now.
