Taika Waititi Says the Current Delays Are Benefiting the End Result of Marvel's THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER
Director Taika Waititi, whom we know and love from Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit, has been a busy player in Hollywood the past few years. He had previously been known for working on the hilarious series Flight of the Conchords, and writing and directing the film What We Do In The Shadows, but his career truly took off when he made Ragnarok, which was such a hilarious and bright film that took the superhero genre in an exciting new direction.
While productions have shut down during this current pandemic, Waititi is hard at work writing the sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder. The film was originally set to premiere on November 5, 2021, but has been pushed back to February 11, 2022. While this is a bummer for fans, Waititi has a positive outlook on the situation. He recently chatted with Total Film, and said:
“There are a few positive things I can take away [from the Covid-19 crisis]. One of them is that a lot of these films, and films in general, are rushed, or you don’t have as much time as you’d want to have on the script and things like that.”
He went on to say this extra time will result in a better script for the film:
“And with writing, especially, you should use as much of that time as possible to get your story right, because you never really get it later on. Film is an industry where you’re always complaining about not having enough time. I think, right now, we’ve given ourselves a huge amount of time to work on all sort of things, so we may as well use it.”
Sounds good to me! Take your time, Taika. We are all so excited about what you will make. I’m sure it will be worth the wait. Waititi recently described the sequel as follows:
"It makes Ragnarok feel like a really run-of-the-mill, really safe film. This new movie feels like we asked a bunch of 10-year-olds what they wanted to see and then just said yes to every single thing."
Yes! I can’t wait! In the sequel, Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor, Tessa Thompson will play Valkyrie again, and Natalie Portman will be back as Jane Foster, who will make her debut as The Mighty Thor! Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on February 11, 2022. Are you excited?
