Taika Waititi Shares Update on His STAR WARS Film Saying It Will Still Feel "Like a Star Wars Film"

Taika Waititi is in a good spot right now, with his highly-anticipated Thor sequel arriving next month and several other projects in various stages of production, including his Tower of Terror film and his Untitled Star Wars movie. The actor, writer, producer, and director previously helmed the highly acclaimed Mandalorian Season 1 finale, and fans are confident in his ability to bring us an original Star Wars story.

While promoting Pixar's Lightyear, in which Waititi voices the character Mo Morrison, Screen Rant asked Waititi if his upcoming film might be different from previous Star Wars installments. He responded:

“That's yet to be seen. I don't know. I'm still writing. I'm still coming up with the ideas and storylining it and just wanted to make sure that it feels like a Star Wars film.

Because, I could say, ‘Oh yeah, we'll just write any old thing and set in space and then put Star Wars on the front.’ But it wouldn't be a Star Wars film without certain elements and a certain treatment, so I've just got to make sure that it stays within that wheelhouse.”

Waititi has a lot on his plate. It’s great that he’s being given the time and allowance to think his film through so that we can see the best story he can tell. I doubt we will be given a ton of information on the story until it shoots and he has something to show, seeing as how he likes to keep films quiet with a lot of surprises in store for the fans. But maybe we will hear a little something at Comic-Con? We will let you know. For now, are there any stories in particular you’d like to see Waititi explore within the Star Wars universe?
