Taika Waititi Talks About Wanting to Direct a Crazy and Funny BLACK WIDOW Movie
We already learned that Thor: Ragnarok director wants to direct another Thor movie, but there's another character in the MCU that he'd like to play with as well. During an interview with io9, he surprisingly revealed that he would also want to make a Black Widow movie, and he would certainly bring something different and unique to the character.
When asked what other characters he would like to play with in the MCU that he thought would fit his brand of humor, he said:
"In all honesty, I reckon I could probably bring something pretty unique to any of the franchises. So I’d love to see Black Widow."
That's definitely an answer that I don't think fans would have expected, but he goes on to talk about how he would handle the character, saying:
“[I’d like to see] Black Widow as something crazy and a bit funnier than we expect it to be. Because we know her story and it’s very sullen and very dark and her history is very dark. But! What’s the funny version of that? What’s the more entertaining version of that?”
After seeing what he did with Thor: Ragnarok, I'd actually be very opening to seeing a Black Widow film directed by Waititi. If he threw Hawkeye into the mix, it would probably be even better. His vision is so opposite of what Black Widow is, which is what makes this whole concept so intriguing. The director goes on to explain:
"I really go for the underdog. [And] I think there’s a way in with any of the characters. You just have to find it and find what honors what’s already there with the source material but also brings it into a more entertaining form for the audience."
This is all just hypothetic talk and we'll probably never see Taika Waitit direct a Black Widow movie, but it's fun to think about how that could turn out. It just seems like a concept that would be way too insane for Marvel, but ya never know!
What do you think of Waititi's take on Black Widow?
