Taika Waititi Teases His STAR WARS Film Saying "It Feels Very Me"
As you know, director Taika Waititi is currently in the process of developing a Star Wars film for Lucasfilm. We know absolutely nothing about the project or what the story will entail. But, Waititi is a unique filmmaker who tells wild and off-the-wall kind of stories, and I’ve been expecting to see him bring his fun and unique sense of humor to the Star Wars universe.
In a recent interview with Wired, the filmmaker was asked about the Star Wars project, and he confirmed that the movie will very much be and feel like a Taika Waititi movie. He said:
“It’s still in the ‘EXT. SPACE’ stage. But we’ve got a story. I’m really excited by it because it feels very me.”
So, the project is still in the early stages of development, but the story he’s going to tell is locked in and it’s going to fit right in with his style of filmmaking and storytelling. That seems like a rare thing with Lucasfilm, who in the past have a very specific idea of what a Star Wars film should be. Who knows, maybe they are going to start to lighten up on that. He went on to say:
“I tend to go down that little sincerity alleyway in my films. I like to fool the viewer into thinking ‘ha it’s this’ and then them going, ‘Damn it, you made me feel something!”
And that’s exactly why I love the stories that Waititi tells! Look, I don’t know what kind of Star Wars movie we’re going to get from Waititi, but I know it’s going to be good.
