Taika Waititi's Series Adaptation of TIME BANDITS Adds Lisa Kudrow to the Cast

Lisa Kudrow (Friends, The Comeback) is set to star in Taika Waititi’s series adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s classic film Time Bandits. The series is set tup at Apple TV, and Waititi is co-writer, director, and executive producer on the project. It looks like this means the project is officially moving forward!

Kudro is joined in the series by an ensemble cast that also includes Kal-El Tuck (Unseeing Evil), Charlyne Yi (Knocked Up), Tadhg Murphy (Conversations With Friends), Roger Jean Nsengiyumva (You Don’t Know Me), Rune Temte (Eddie the Eagle), Kiera Thompson (Martyrs Lane), and Rachel House (Heartbreak High).

Kudrow plays a character named Penelope; Tuck portrays Kevin; Yi plays Judy; Murphy plays Alto; Nsengiyumva is Widgit; Temte portrays Bittelig; Thompson plays Saffron and House is Fianna.

The series will consist of ten episodes, and Waititi will helm the first two. The show is described as a comedic journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an eleven-year-old history nerd.

Look, I love the original film! It was only of my favorite movies as a kid and over the year Gilliam had been trying to continue the story in a sequel, but he was never able to get it off the ground. Now we are getting this series adaptation of Waititi, and I guess we’ll just have to see how it turns out.

I would love nothing more for it than to be great! Only time will tell. Waititi has made some great films and TV shows in his career and I hope that he manages to pull this Time Bandits series off.

The original film follows the time-traveling adventures of an 11-year-old boy named Kevin who, one night, stumbles on six dwarfs who emerge from his closet. They are former workers of the Supreme Being who have stolen a map that charts all the holes in the space-time fabric, using it to hop from one historical era to the next in order to steal riches. Throughout the movie, they meet various historical and fictional characters, including Napoleon Bonaparte and Robin Hood, while the Supreme Being simultaneously tries to catch up to them and retrieve the map.

The film starred Sean Connery, John Cleese, Shelley Duvall, Ralph Richardson, Katherine Helmond, Ian Holm, Michael Palin, Peter Vaughan and David Warner.

Are you excited about the upcoming Time Bandits series? Do you think Waititi will deliver a solid show that fans of the film will enjoy?
