Take a Virtual Tour Through the Winchester Mystery House
A dark cloud has been cast over spring breaks everywhere this month as the Corona Virus pandemic has swept the world. Conventions are canceled and postponed, theme parks are closed indefinitely, and groups of people are recommended to stay small. So very few are going on vacation, and we don’t know when we will get the opportunity to see the landmarks and tourist attractions we’ve always wanted to see. But some places are making the best of the situation, and helping out those of us who can’t make it out by making their attractions available to the home bound.
The Winchester Mystery House is the former home of Sarah Winchester, daughter in law of the creator of the Winchester rifle, and heir to the $20 Million dollar estate left to her after her husband’s death. Sarah had a life of tragedy, as she had one child that died in infancy, and her husband died just a few years later. She built an estate in San Jose, California, and felt that she was cursed by all the lives taken by the famous guns by which she received her fortune, and was told by a psychic that she must continue to build upon her mansion to appease the souls which haunted her.
She spent millions of dollars in the constant construction over the years until her death, and she oversaw each part of the architecture. The extravagant home includes stairways that go nowhere, doors that open to drops, beautiful woodwork and incredible stained glass. While looking at pictures of the home is cool, the website for the home is currently offering a virtual tour, where the guide gives you tons of cool info, just as if you were there taking the tour in person.
My husband and I watched the tour, and it was really cool to see. I totally recommend it. Check it out here, and let us know what you think!
