TALK TO ME Is Getting a Wild Meta Spin-Off as a Fully Immersive XR Horror Experience
Get ready to grab the Hand again, but this time, you’ll need a Meta headset to do it. The breakout horror hit Talk to Me is expanding into an ambitious new territory with a TV spin-off that you can only watch through Meta’s virtual reality platform.
The untitled series will take place in the same chilling universe as the 2023 film, but with a technological twist. According to the official description, it will follow “a group of young travelers chasing the ultimate party on a European island until they discover the Hand, a supernatural high deadlier than any drug.”
The project is being described as “Euphoria with possession.”
If you’ve seen Talk to Me, you know the film’s ending teased a continuation set in Greece, where a new group of partiers unwittingly summon the spirit of one of the movie’s doomed characters. It seems like this series is going to pick up right where that eerie final moment left off.
What makes this project especially interesting is the way viewers will experience it. “The live-action series will also harness cutting-edge mixed reality technology to map viewers’ environments and immerse them in the story,” the statement revealed.
That means the horror will literally unfold around you, your living room, your walls, your space. Good luck sleeping after that!
The six-episode series will be directed by Craig William Macneill, known for his work on Westworld, The Twilight Zone, and The Terror. The scripts are being written by Trent Atherton (The Wheel), while Danny and Michael Philippou, the filmmaking duo behind the original movie, are serving as executive producers.
Released in 2023, Talk to Me starred Sophie Wilde as a grief-stricken teenager who discovers she can communicate with her deceased mother using a severed, embalmed hand. It became one of A24’s biggest horror sensations and launched the Philippou brothers into the genre spotlight. A direct sequel, Talk 2 Me, is already in development.
With this new XR spin-off, the world of Talk to Me audiences will be watching the terror unfold while being immersed in it.
