Talking LEGO with Lauren & Bryan from LEGO MASTERS
Last week, fans were saddened when Lauren & Bryan were eliminated on LEGO Masters. The sibling duo put up quite a fight, but in the end, their puppet build wasn’t as impressive as the others. I was able to ask the duo a few questions and their answers are below. You can watch new episodes of LEGO Masters Tuesday evenings on FOX or the next day on Hulu.
Tommy: How did the experience on LEGO Masters affect your relationship as siblings?
Lauren & Bryan: We’ve grown even closer as a result of the show. We’ve gotten to share this crazy, incredible experience together, where we had to collaborate and be creative under really intense circumstances, and I think that helped us get to know each other even better. We’ve always had this sibling telepathy, as we call it, but that gets amplified when you’re running to the brick pit with 10 minutes left and need to know exactly what brick the other person needs! We’ve always been close as siblings, and being on the show made that bond stronger.
Tommy: Have you revisited the world of puppetry since your time on the show?
Lauren & Bryan: We actually just watched the original Muppets Movie together for the first time, and absolutely LOVED it! We used to put on puppet shows for our parents as kids, but admittedly it was the first time in many, many years when we had to do it again for the show. Maybe we’ll get back into it, but if one thing’s for sure, I (Bryan) am going to keep doing that English accent.
Tommy: In the final edit, I felt like we didn't really get a good sense of what your puppet show was about. We were told there was a script, but I'm curious how close to the script your show was and what the story was supposed to be?
Lauren & Bryan: Each team had the same script they had to follow, which included saying hi to the audience and a small interaction about a VIP “very important puppet” show. But then the script allowed for each puppet to show off a “special skill” individually, and at the end, perform something together with the other team. Our puppet, Hazel the Princess Pup, showed off her special skill of fetching a bejeweled tennis ball. For when we came together with Michelle and Natalie at the end, we performed a LEGO-themed song together, with Hazel providing the extra “woof!” at the end of each line.
Tommy: What is a LEGO building tip that you would give to a new builder?
Lauren & Bryan: It’s okay to break up your sets! LEGO is meant to be a creative tool to build whatever is meaningful to you. If you can think of a story you want to tell, or a really cool thing that you want to create, try to build it from scratch, no matter how many bricks you have.
