Taron Egerton Clarifies His Meeting with Marvel Saying It Didn't Involve Wolverine
A few weeks ago Taron Egerton revealed that he had been in talks with Marvel Studio, at the time he made it seem like he was in talks with them about the possibility of playing Wolverine. Well, in a recent interview with with the Happy Sad Confused podcast he clarified some things.
He explained that the meeting took place four years ago, it didn’t involve the character Wolverine, and he hasn’t heard from Marvel since. Here’s his direct quote when asked about it:
"So the reality is that there's been a lot of fancasting for it. I took a general meeting with Kevin about four years ago, where I said I love the movies, I would love to do something, and he said, it would be great if we could find something. I walked away and haven't spoken to him since. I check my emails every five minutes. There was a character I mentioned in that meeting, but it wasn't that one, so that puts it in perspective. There's no reality to it."
Taron seems like he can pull off the role of Wolverine, but I would like to see Marvel go with an unknown. This is something that Deadpool 3 screenwriter Rhett Reese, previously said:
“I would honestly go more... an undiscovered person, because Hugh Jackman was reasonably undiscovered the first time and I think there was initial bucking [of], 'Oh, he's too tall,' or, 'He doesn't look right,' or, 'What is this Australian thing?' I think that if they're playing their cards right, they probably should make it someone we've never seen."
Who knows what Marvel is thinking, though. We don’t have any information on what they will be doing with the X-Men characters, but mutant DNA has been introduced in the MCU thanks to Ms. Marvel. They’ve got a long what to go to build on that. I’m not a fan of how this was introduced, but maybe the creative team has a smart way of building on it. We’ll just have to wait and see.
What do you think? How would you like to see Wolverine introduced in the MCU?
