Taron Egerton Says He's Been in Talks with Marvel Studios About Playing Wolverine
Over the past few years, a lot of fans have been campaigning for Taron Egerton (The Kingsman) to play Wolverine in the MCU. Well, he has confirmed in a recent interview that he’s been in talks with Kevin Feige and other Marvel Studio executives about taking on the role of Wolverine.
In an interview with The New York Times, Egerton said: “I don’t think it would be wrong to say that. I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it. But, hopefully, if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”
Personally, I don’t like Egerton for the role of Wolverine, I don’t think he could handle it. I agree with Deadpool 3 screenwriter Rhett Reese, who said that the character should be played by an undiscovered person:
“I would honestly go more... an undiscovered person, because Hugh Jackman was reasonably undiscovered the first time and I think there was initial bucking [of], 'Oh, he's too tall,' or, 'He doesn't look right,' or, 'What is this Australian thing?' I think that if they're playing their cards right, they probably should make it someone we've never seen."
Bringing in an unknown to take on the role makes so much more sense to me, but I don’t think Disney will go for that. They are going to want to cast a familiar actor, someone that they think will draw audiences. What they don’t understand is that Wolverine is the main attraction, that character that will draw the audience, and they just need to cast the right actor to take on the role.
