Taron Egerton to Star in TETRIS: THE MOVIE for Apple
Apple is set to produce Tetris: The Movie, which will tell the story of the popular ground-breaking video game. Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Rocketman) is set to star in the film, which is being helmed by the director of Stan & Ollie, Jon S. Baird. The script was written by Noah Pink.
Egerton will take on the role of Henk Rogers, “a Dutch video game designer who first secured the rights to distribute Tetris on consoles, where it found popularity. He was heavily involved in a dispute that arose over the franchise’s copyright in the 1980s.”
The film is still in the casting process, and they are currently finalizing deals for roles that include the Russian software engineer Alexey Pajitnov, who first created the game, and the businessmen Robert and Kevin Maxwell.
Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman, X-Men: First Class) is producing the film through his production company Marv Films, and it’s scheduled to start shooting in early December in Scotland.
I don’t know much about the history of Tetris or the story behind the creation of the game, but I’m interested in watching the dramatized Hollywood version of how it played out. I’m just happy that this a movie about the game and its creation, and not a movie about giant blocks dropping down out of the sky destroying Earth.
