Taylor Kitsch Opens Up About Being Approached for FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Reboot: "I’ve Been Asked"
As Friday Night Lights fans gear up for the reboot on Peacock, one question has been whether any familiar faces from the original series might make an appearance.
Taylor Kitsch, who famously played Tim Riggins in the beloved NBC drama, recently shed some light on the matter during an interview on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw.
When asked about his involvement in the reboot, Kitsch confirmed, “I’ve been asked, and we’ll leave it at that.” While fans might hope for a substantial return, the actor clarified that he’s not looking to lead the revival.
Instead, he expressed interest in a more modest role, saying, “Maybe come in and do something … maybe for an episode or something.”
When reflecting on the idea of returning to the Friday Night Lights universe, Kitsch acknowledged the difficulty of playing a completely new character, saying:
“I think if you saw me as someone else, you’d be like, That’s Riggins.” However, he did mention the idea of a quick cameo, suggesting he could play “an opposing team’s coach or something and be on-screen for like eight seconds. I would do that.”
The upcoming reboot is being produced by Friday Night Lights creator Peter Berg, showrunner Jason Katims, and executive producer Brian Grazer.
The fresh take on the series centers on a high school football team navigating the aftermath of a devastating hurricane, led by a damaged interim coach.
According to the official description, the team’s journey to the Texas state championship will offer a new beacon of hope for their struggling town.
This isn’t the first time discussions of a revival have surfaced. Back in 2015, Kyle Chandler, who won an Emmy for his role as Coach Eric Taylor, firmly closed the door on returning to the series.
He said: “It ended so well, it ended beautifully, And I was more than happy for it to end when it did, because you couldn’t have gone much further.”
For now, fans can look forward to the reboot’s fresh storyline while holding onto hope for a nostalgic nod to the original. Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.
