Taylor Sheridan Explains That YELLOWSTONE is Not The "Red-State GAME OF THRONES"
In my opinion, Yellowstone is one of the best series out there right now. The writing is incredible and I love the story that it’s telling and the fascinating characters that fill it. A lot of people assume that this is a conservative or Republican show, but it’s a show that everyone can enjoy and according to creator Taylor Sheridan, anyone who thinks that about this show has probably never watched it.
During a recent interview with The Atlantic, Sheridan said: “They refer to it as ‘the conservative show’ or ‘the Republican show’ or ‘the red-state Game of Thrones, and I just sit back laughing.”
He goes on to explain: “I’m like, ‘Really?’ The show’s talking about the displacement of Native Americans and the way Native American women were treated and about corporate greed and the gentrification of the West, and land-grabbing. That’s a red-state show?”
If you haven’t watched the show yet for some reason, Yellowstone tells the story of the Dutton family, led by Kevin Costner in the role of John Dutton, a widowed sixth-generation patriarch of the Dutton family who operates the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, the largest contiguous ranch in the United States and it borders the Broken Rock Indian Reservation. As the series progresses, John is continually challenged by those seeking to take control of the ranch's land.
Season 5 of the show premiered last night and it was a strong return as we see John Dutton elected Governor of Montana and how he handles that new position. There are a lot of other things going on and it’s going to be great to see how this story continues to play out.
The fifth season of Yellowstone will be split into two installments of seven episodes each. There’s also a Season 6 currently in development.
