Teaser Trailer and Details For New STARGATE Prequel Series STARGATE ORIGINS

There's a new Stargate series in development! It's a prequel series from MGM called Stargate Origins. It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con during the 20th anniversary retrospective on the series Stargate SG-1 and they even released a teaser trailer for it that you can watch below.

This will be a digital series that will consist of 10 episodes that run 10 minutes in length. It will be exclusively shown on a new website called Stargate Command. According to the MGM, this website will also be an official destination for all things Stargate, including a “variety of Stargate assets and content from the franchise’s nearly 25-year history.”

MGM’s president of digital and new platforms, Kevin Conroy, had this to say in a statement (via LA Times):

“We’ve been eager to revisit the Stargate franchise and create an all-new story that honors the founding mythos. We view Stargate Origins as a thank you to fans who have been keeping the spirit of the franchise alive for nearly 25 years.”

That's pretty cool! This new series is set prior to the events of the original Roland Emmerich-directed film. It was also revealed that it will focus on a younger version of the character Catherine Langford.

Stargate Origins will be a new chapter in the life of franchise stalwart Catherine Langford, whose father, archeologist Paul Langford, discovered the eponymous Stargate in 1928, when Catherine was a young girl.
Origins will see a young Catherine — whose death as an elderly woman is depicted in the eighth season of Stargate SG-1 — exploring the mysteries of the Stargate in an attempt to save Earth.

I've always enjoyed the Stargate franchise so I'm looking forward to checking this new series out! Are you excited to see that we are getting a little new Stargate series?
