Teaser Trailer for Netflix's THE CROWN Season 3 Shows Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II
Netflix has shared the first teaser trailer for The Crown Season 3 and it offers us our first look at Oscar Winner Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth II. It was also revealed that the new season will premiere on November 17th.
Colman takes over the role from Claire Foy, who won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for playing the young queen in Netflix’s drama series. Foy was fantastic in the role, and I’m sure that Colman will deliver a great performance as well.
The first two seasons of the series have been great! The show will chronicle the entire life of Queen Elizabeth II, up to the present day. This next season will take place 20 years into Elizabeth’s reign. It’s explained, “The idea is to do this over six decades in six seasons presumably, and make the whole show [run] over eight to 10 years."
According to Variety, The Crown Season 3 will cover “the Wilson era.” It spans the years 1964-77, “during the Swinging ’60s and through the ’70s, up to the cusp of Margaret Thatcher’s election as prime minister in 1979.”
All of the characters in the series have been recast as the characters have aged. The new cast members include The Terror’s Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, previously played by Matt Smith; Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret previously played by Vanessa Kirby, and Ben Daniels will play Antony Armstrong-Jones, aka Lord Snowdon, who was originally played by Matthew Goode. They are joined by Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Marion Bailey as the Queen Mother, and Jason Watkins as Prime Minister Harold Wilson.
