Teaser Trailer for THE GIRLFRIEND Drops Sees Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke Face Off in Twisted Family Thriller
Prime Video has released the first teaser for The Girlfriend, a six-episode limited series that will tell an unnerving and twisted story
The story centers on Laura, played by Robin Wright, a successful woman whose picture-perfect life starts to unravel when her son introduces his new girlfriend. Olivia Cooke plays Cherry, and from the moment she arrives, something feels... off.
The teaser dials up the tension fast, offering a glimpse of mounting dread, disturbing glances, and a bloody cake. The tagline makes the stakes crystal clear: “A mother. A son. His girlfriend. And the lie they’ll wish had never been told.”
The show is based on Michelle Frances’ bestselling novel and promises a psychological tug-of-war between a protective mother and a mysterious young woman.
According to the official synopsis: “The Girlfriend follows Laura (Wright), a woman who seemingly has it all: a glittering career, a loving husband, and her precious son, Daniel. Her perfect life unravels when Daniel brings home Cherry (Cooke), a new girlfriend who changes everything.
“After a tense introduction, Laura becomes convinced Cherry is hiding something. Is she a manipulative social climber, or is Laura just paranoid? The truth is a matter of perspective.”
The creative team behind The Girlfriend includes writers Naomi Sheldon and Gabbie Asher, along with a writers' room stacked with talent. Episodes are directed by Andrea Harkin and Robin Wright herself.
The series premieres September 10, 2025, on Prime Video.
