Teaser Trailer for WILDWOOD Reveals LAIKA’s Next Gorgeous Stop-Motion Fantasy Adventure
Fans of LAIKA finally got their first real look at Wildwood, and this movie feels like it’s going to be another unforgettable animated journey from the studio behind Coraline, ParaNorman, and Kubo and the Two Strings.
The newly released teaser trailer pulls audiences into a strange and dangerous fantasy world packed with magic, creepy creatures, emotional stakes, and some seriously jaw-dropping stop-motion animation.
This movie comes from director Travis Knight, who also did incredible work on Kubo and the Two Strings, and from the footage shown, Wildwood looks like it could stand right alongside the studio’s best films.
LAIKA has released images from the project before, but seeing this world actually moving on screen is a completely different experience. Every frame is loaded with texture, atmosphere, and handcrafted detail that makes the movie feel alive.
The story follows a strong-willed teenager named Prue McKeel, voiced by Peyton Elizabeth Lee, whose life gets turned upside down when her baby brother is kidnapped by a murder of crows. T
o save him, Prue ventures into the mysterious forest known as the Impassable Wilderness. Alongside her classmate Curtis Mehlberg, played by Jacob Tremblay, she encounters talking animals, dangerous outlaws, and powerful figures driven by grief and ambition.
But Prue’s mission quickly grows into something much larger. As tensions rise within the forest itself, she and Curtis find themselves caught in the middle of a battle that could decide the fate of Wildwood. To rescue her brother and survive what’s ahead, Prue will have to push herself further than she ever imagined.
LAIKA describes the film as “a sweeping adventure about love, sacrifice, and the magic that reveals itself when we dare to look beyond the familiar.”
That sense of wonder is all over this teaser. There are moments that feel whimsical and dreamlike, then suddenly the trailer shifts into darker and more intense territory. It has the same emotional fantasy energy that made Kubo such a special experience.
The voice cast is packed with talent including Carey Mulligan, Richard E. Grant, Awkwafina, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Charlie Day, Blythe Danner, Maya Erskine, Jake Johnson, Angela Bassett, and Mahershala Ali, along with several others bringing the strange inhabitants of Wildwood to life.
If this teaser is any indication, LAIKA may have another animated classic headed our way. The studio continues to do things nobody else in animation is doing right now, and Wildwood looks like a haunting, emotional, and visually stunning adventure worth getting excited about.
Wildwood flies into theaters later this summer.
