TED LASSO Finale Director Says the Last Episode's Final Montage Hints at Many Possible Spin-Offs
Ever since the end of the third season of Ted Lasso, fans have been wondering where the show will go from here. Star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis had said several times that the series had a three-season story to tell, and with his character’s final episode, it seems that Ted’s story arc is complete. But as much as the finale wrapped up the characters’ stories, it also seemed to leave some paths open for further exploration.
Finale episode director Declan Lowney recently sat down with Above the Line, and Lowney was asked if there were any spin-offs in the works. He noted that there were “quite a few clues” in the finale’s montage, including a hint at the possibility of Nate, Beard, and Roy running AFC Richmond.
“The montage has quite a few clues there. Keeley pitching for an AFC Richmond women’s team — great timing — and that would be fantastic for her and Rebecca to run that team. Maybe they’d use Roy as a captain? Does Roy even [want to] stay on and captain anyway? And we know Beard looks like he’s going to stay in the country because his girlfriend’s pregnant. So there are a couple of spin-offs … maybe Nate, Beard, and Roy running AFC Richmond, or the two girls running the women’s team? I’m not sure about Judge McAdoo, but you could maybe do something like [Judge Judy] called McAdoo’s Court or something like that.”
There were plenty of storylines left open in that episode. Heck, I’d be happy to see any one of them move forward, as well as a show centered around Ted back in the states. I just love the writing and characters on that show so much. I can’t wait to see what they do next. Which spinoff would you like to see the most?
