TED LASSO Writer and Actor Brett Goldstein Says Season 3 is Currently Being Written as the Show's Finale

We’ve got good news, and we’ve got bad news. Ted Lasso season 3 is currently being written for Apple TV+! But according to the show’s co-writer, Brett Goldstein, who plays fan-favorite character Roy Kent in the series, the season is being developed as the show’s last. Goldstein recently told Sunday Times:

“We are writing it like that. It was planned as three. Spoiler alert — everyone dies.”

Besides the obviously sarcastic deadly ending reference, this echoes the sentiment previously stated by the show’s star and creator, Jason Sudeikis, who told Entertainment Weekly in 2021:

“The story that I know is the one that I wanted to tell, and so that’s the one we’re telling with the help of numerous people in front of and behind the camera, so it’s by no means me typing every key stroke and saying every word,” he said. “It’s nowhere near like that. But the story that’s being told – that three-season arc – is one that I see, know, and understood. I’m glad that they are willing to pay for those three seasons. As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don’t know.”

I remember Sudeikis saying this, and I really anticipated the writers and creators finding a way to move forward between then and now. I love Ted Lasso so much. It is such a feel-good show that came to us during the pandemic, right when we needed it most. I hoped we would get a few more seasons out of it. But no matter what, I know we will enjoy season 3. If the show follows it’s previous pattern, we will get to see the final season before the end of the year. And who knows, maybe someone will have pitched an idea for the story to push forward by then.

Are you hoping we get more seasons of Ted Lasso?
