TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM 2 Moves Up to August 2027 Release

Cowabunga, turtle fans! Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo are heading back to theaters a little earlier than expected.

Paramount has officially shifted the release date for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 to August 13, 2027. The sequel was originally set to hit theaters on September 17, 2027.

That’s a solid vote of confidence in the franchise, and it shows Paramount isn’t slowing down when it comes to its TMNT plans.

The sequel brings back director Jeff Rowe, who helmed the first film, along with co-directors Kyler Spears and Yashar Kassai. Rowe and Spears previously worked alongside producers and writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who are also returning for round two.

Producing for Point Grey are James Weaver, Josh Fagen, and Ramsay McBean, with Lukas Williams serving as executive producer.

The first Mutant Mayhem movie landed in theaters in August 2023 and pulled in $181 million worldwide. Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies had so much confidence in their fresh animated take on the 40-year-old franchise that development on the sequel was already in motion before the original even debuted.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand has become a major focus for Paramount in recent years, and that emphasis has only increased under the new Skydance leadership. It’s clear the studio sees long-term potential in these characters, and they’re building out the universe in a big way.

In addition to Mutant Mayhem 2, Paramount has slated an untitled live-action/CG hybrid Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie for November 17, 2028. That project will mark the first live-action TMNT film since 2016’s Out of the Shadows.

Paramount also revealed plans to grow the TMNT franchise across multiple platforms. That includes a major toy licensing partnership with Mattel beginning in 2027, an illustrated middle-grade book titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splinter’s Dojo, and an adult novel based on the bestselling graphic novel The Last Ronin.

There’s also a preschool-targeted digital series called Teeny Mutant Ninja Turtles coming to YouTube, plus themed TMNT pizzerias set to open in Santa Monica, Monterrey, Mexico, and São Paulo, Brazil.

Now we just have to wait until August 13, 2027 to see what kind of mutant chaos the turtles unleash next.
