Terence Winter Drops Out of HBO Max's BATMAN Drama Series
When it was initially announced that Matt Reeves would be developing a Batman series for HBO Max, we learned that he would be working on it with Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter.
The original DC drama is set in the Gotham City police department, and Winter was set to write, executive produce, and be the showrunner of the series. Well, he has now left the project over creative differences.
Winter is a talented filmmaker, and it seems like he would have been a great fit for this, so it sucks that the project lost him. I guess he just found himself in a losing battle with the other creative heads of the series. That’s a shame, but hopefully, they find another talented individual to replace him.
Reeves previously said that working with Winter on the series was “an absolute dream.” That dream obviously didn’t last long.
The story for the series is set in the same Gotham City that we will see in Reeves’ The Batman and will be set prior to the events of the film. The show “will build upon the film’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series will extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad of complex characters of Gotham.”
Even though Winter is no longer involved, I’m still excited to see what this series ends up being.
