Teri Hatcher Talks About "Breaking the Internet" with "Evocative" Lois Lane Photo
Before comic book movies and TV shows ruled the world of entertainment, in 1993 there was a great Superman series on ABC that ran from 1993 to 1997 titled Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
The show ran for four seasons, and it was one of the few shows I enjoyed watching in the early ‘90s. The series starred Dean Cain as Superman, and Teri Hatcher took on the role of Lois Lane.
One of the most popular promo images released for the series included Hatcher with a slight smile on her face with Superman’s red cape draped low around her shoulders to suggest she wasn’t wearing anything underneath.
Yeah, that’s one of those images that is seared into my memory, and during a recent interview with The Guardian, Hatcher recalled breaking the internet with that photo and how the photo came to exist in the first place.
The actress explained: "I broke the internet when we still had dial-up. I don't credit myself with being so fabulous. I do remember the photoshoot, which was to promote the TV show.
“It took all day. I was wearing a white blouse and pencil skirt because Lois is a reporter from the Daily Planet, with the cape wrapped over.
“It wasn't until the last take of the day that someone said: 'Could we try the cape without the blouse?' I thought: 'What does that imply? Why would Lois Lane be naked under the cape?' We only did it as a lark, but the result was evocative. Now I'm so much older, I still feel proud of it."
The shoot was so well-received and so popular that Hatcher later did another, steamier shoot which featured her in photos on a Superman-themed bed, with red blankets wrapped around her.
