TERMINATOR SALVATION Director McG Discusses What Went Wrong With the Film and Its Alternate Ending

Terminator Salvation ended up being such a big disappointment. While it had a great cast with Sam Worthington, Christian Bale, and Anton Yelchin, the film, which was supposed to reboot the franchise, failed at its job. It’s a shame because this actually could’ve been a great movie had there been a strong creative team. It just didn’t click with audiences and fans.

During an interview with CB, the director of the film, McG, talked about what he thinks went wrong with the movie and also revealed an alternate ending. He said:

"We tried hard. On that one, we brought in Jonah Nolan to write it, there was a writers' strike back then. Brought in Christian Bale, you can't reach much higher than that. We certainly gave it everything we had. A lot of people like that movie, it didn't quite do what I hoped it was gonna do and I've been living with that wound a long time."

As for the alternate ending, he said: "There's a cut out there with an entirely different ending, I just can't share it with the world yet. It's beyond dark."

It’s so ridiculous to me when filmmakers say they can share certain things about movies long after the film was released.

When previously talking about the alternate ending, the filmmaker said: "I think the film has started to age better. And there is a different cut: I have my own cut of that film and there's people online that talk about wanting to see that cut. I think I got a lot of things right with that."

He added, "I think I got to take the punch on that one for not quite nailing the landing on the final expression of that movie and, who knows, maybe the cut that I have of that movie hidden away is the answer. It's darker! I don't know, that's for the fans to say."

I don’t think this darker alternate cut will be better than the film that was released, and I don’t think that fans are ever going to be asking for the McG cut of Terminator Salvation, so he might as well just spill the beans on his original ending of the film.
