TERRIFIER 3 Wins The Box Office, While JOKER: FOLIE Á DEUX Hit With a Brutal 81% Drop
Terrifier 3 has murdered its way to the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office this past weekend with $18.3 million from 2,514 theaters in its opening weekend. It’s a massive start for the independently made, low-budget, ultra-violent slasher horror film about a demonic clown who brutalizes a small town.
As for Joker: Folie á Deux, it has brutally crashed into third place with only $7.055 million from 4,102 theaters. That’s a drastic 81% drop at the box office. Yeah, that movie did not do as well as Warner Bros. hoped it would.
20 years from now, Joker: Folie á Deux will be one of those films that people forget was even made. It will be a bit of movie trivia for movie fans, “Did you know they actually made a sequel to Joker!?” And people will be shocked.
Joker: Folie á Deux ranks as one of the biggest second weekend drops for the superhero genre, plunging more severely than The Marvels (78.1%), Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (69.9%), Shazam: Fury of the Gods (69%) and The Flash (72.5%).
The movie has made a total of $51.6 million domestically and $165.3 million globally. The Warner Bros. film carries a hefty $200 million budget and it will struggle to get anywhere near the $450 million needed to break even.
Terrifier 3 has been met with positive critical and audience reactions for such a jacked-up ultra-violent horror movie, scoring a “B” on CinemaScore and 77% on Rotten Tomatoes.
In case you were wondering, The Wild Robot came in at No. 2 over the weekend with $13.4 million. I loved that movie, and if you haven’t watched it yet, you should!
