Tessa Thompson Talks THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER and Reveals New Powers for Valkyrie

It looks like Tessa Thompson’s Marvel character Valkyrie will be getting some new powers in director Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder. Thompson shared the news in an interview with W Magazine while talking about the movie.

The actress explained that he says Valkyrie will have the ability to bring people into the afterlife and also revive them if she needs to. Here are her comments:

"She has weird skills, to be honest. She can sense when someone is close to death, and she takes them into Valhalla, which is essentially the afterlife. She can revive people. But when she revives people, sometimes she ends up in their body. It's a weird thing. It can be quite erotic. And then she has superhuman strength and is essentially God."

So, that’s cool! This is actually a power that she has in the comics. She is able to sense what is called the "deathglow," or the coming of death, of nearby individuals close to dying. Also, in the comics, she can pass a portion of her life essence to others. It makes sense that they’d eventually want to play with these powers as Valkyrie is now King of Asgard.

Thor: Love and Thunder also stars Chris Hemsworth, who is back as the God of Thunder; Natalie Portman as Jane Foster; and Christian Bale will play Gore The God Butcher.

I’m excited about the storyline in this movie as Jane Foster takes on the mantle of Thor. Jane Foster’s Thor story arc is based on Jason Aaron’s comic book run on The Mighty Thor, the story of which follows a cancer-stricken Jane Foster as she takes up the mantle and powers of Thor. Portman previously teased this storyline, saying:

"I can’t tell you that much. I’m really excited. I’m starting to train, to get muscles. If there can be all these female superheroes, the more of them they are, the better it is. I’m trying to think — it’s based on the graphic novel of The Mighty Thor. She’s going through cancer treatment and is a superhero on the side."

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently set to arrive in theaters on May 6, 2022.
