Thanos' Mission in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Was Inspired By 90s Heist Films
If you enjoyed watching heist films from the 90s, you'll be happy to learn that directors Joe and Anthony Russo were inspired by those films when developing Thanos' mission in Avengers: Infinity War.
It's no secret that the story for the movie will revolve around Thanos and the Black Order going from one point of the MCU to the next collecting all the Infinity Stones to power the gauntlet. During an interview with CB, Joe Russo revealed that the telling of this story was inspired heist films from the 90s. He explains:
"My brother and I like to use movies (because we're film geeks) as influences for us. Sometimes, with so many people working on these films, it's just great to show them footage or talk about a film that everyone knows so you understand the tone, or the theme, or the structure that you're playing with. Structurally, with this first film, Avengers 3, we've been using the smash-n-grab '90s heist films, so there's a real urgency to the film. I feel like it adds a level of excitement and relentlessness to the pace of the movie. And it's a lot of divergent narratives coming together into a climax."
I love hearing this! I'm a big fan of movies from the 90s. There are some incredibly cool action and heist films from that era to be inspired from. They don't mention what those movies are, but if you grew up watching movies in the 90s then I'm sure you'll be able to think of a few.
One of the most exciting things Russo says here is that the film will have a relentless pace. This movie, which is said to currently have a run of two and a half hours, must practically have non-stop action!
Damn, I can't wait to see more from this movie! To check out all of our Infinity War news, make sure to catch up on it here.
