That Doctor Strange Torture Scene in the INFINITY WAR Trailer is From The Comics and This is What it Means...

The image above is a screenshot from the Avengers: Infinity War trailer and it features Doctor Strange in the middle of being tortured by the villain Ebony Maw. It's a pretty crazy and terrifying scene that features a bunch of spikes penetrating his freakin' face while Ebony Maw finds joy in his pain. For those of you who are familiar with Jonathan Hickman's 2013 Infinity event comic arc, you know what this means. If you don't know...

In the comics, Thanos sends Ebony Maw on a mission to find Doctor Strange to reveal the location of the Infinity Stones. Strange is one of the few people who would actually have this information with the kind of duties that he is tasked with. The prequel comic even confirms that Strange has knowledge about the locations of most of the Infinity Stones.

Ebony Maw uses his mental abilities to force Strange to reveal the location of the Stones, which makes it easy for Thanos to find them all. Not only does Maw get the Infinity Stone information from Strange, but in the comics, he actually turns Strange to the dark side and ends up being a double agent for Thanos.

I have no idea how much of this will be utilized in the film. But I'm pretty sure that Doctor Strange will reveal the locations of the stones. However, I doubt that he will be used as a double agent. That would surprise me.

But, it does look like Doctor Strange could actually end up being the key to Thanos' success. In a previous interview with Joe Russo, he talked about Strange's involvement in the story, saying:

"Doctor Strange, like a lot of the other characters, will integrate his universe into this film. And he will have a very personal stake in it because he's a bearer of an Infinity Stone. So clearly, Thanos is coming for the stones, he's going to run into Doctor Strange."

It will be interesting to see how these elements from the comic will actually play out over the course of the movie. How do you think it will play out?
