That FAST & FURIOUS Spinoff Film With Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham is Moving Forward

We've known for years that Universal Pictures was planning a Fast and Furious spinoff film with Dwayne Johnson. Then in 2015, we learned that various storylines have been written for several characters. Then rumors started growing that a film was being developed that would center around Dwayne Johnson's Hobbes and Jason Statham's Deckard. It was most recently reported that a scene was actually shot for The Fate of the Furious that would set up that spinoff. This apparently pissed Vin Diesel off and Universal ended up cutting it from the film.

Well, today Deadline is reporting that the Johnson and Statham spinoff is moving forward! This is the spinoff that the studio is excited about pursuing. According to the report, it's in the early stages of development and franchise writer Chris Morgan will be scripting the film.

The idea is for Johnson’s US Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs to form an unlikely alliance with Statham’s Decker Shaw, for a movie that could conceivably be made while they are figuring the next Fast film.

I enjoyed the dynamic between these two characters in The Fate of the Furious and it's not hard to imagine a movie that focuses on those characters as they embark on some kind of action-packed Mission: Impossible-style adventure.

The Fast and the Furious is a film franchise that is exploding! I never thought it would ever get this big, but it shows no signs of slowing down. Are any of you excited to see Johnson and Statham get their own spinoff movie?
