That Live-Action MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM is Really Going to Happen!
After we saw the most popular Gundam mecha in action in Ready Player One, fans really wanted to see a live-action feature film based on the popular Mobile Suit Gundam Japanese property. Now it looks like it's really going to happen!
Legendary has recently announced a new collaboration with Sunrise that will eventually see Mobile Suit Gundam get its first ever live-action movie! There are no real details about what the film will entail right now, but the press release did offer a brief synopsis for the premise of the original anime series and its setting in the 'Universal Century,' which is the main timeline that most of the Gundam anime, mangas, and video games have been set in:
The original Gundam series is set in the Universal Century, an era in which humanity’s growing population has led people to emigrate to space colonies. Eventually, the people living in the colonies seek their autonomy, and launch a war of independence against the people living on Earth. Through the tragedies and discord arising from this human conflict, not only the maturation of the main character, but also the intentions of enemies and the surrounding people are sensitively depicted.
It's exciting to learn that things are moving forward with this. It may be awhile before we see anything happen with it, but when it does I think that it's going to hit big with the fans! At least I hope it does!
With Legendary Pictures behind the production, it's sure to get the budget and attention that it deserves. After all, this is the same studio that brought us Godzilla, King Kong, and Pacific Rim. But, Mobile Suit Gundam better be better than all of those!
We'll keep you updated on any information as it comes available.
