THAT THING YOU DO! Band Members The Wonders Reunite for Live Show in Los Angeles
The title song from Tom Hanks' 1996 directorial debut That Thing You Do! was the biggest pop song in the world in the fictional universe of the film, but the song eventually transcended the movie and became a moderate hit on real radio stations in the '90s. (If you've never seen That Thing You Do!, seek it out.)
Earlier this month, actor Ethan Embry tweeted a video of himself playing the bass line of the ear-wormy tune:
And it looks like that was just a teaser of things to come. This week, Embry reunited with his fictional bandmates Tom Everett Scott and Jonathan Schaech to perform the song live on stage at The Roxy in Los Angeles as part of a Comedy Central series called The Goddamn Comedy Jam, in which actors speak about a song that means something to them and then perform it with a live band.
While it wasn't quite a full reunion of the fictional band The Wonders — Steve Zahn couldn't make it to the performance — it was probably as close as fans are going to get. Good luck getting that song out of your head for the rest of the day!
