That Time on THE X-FILES Where The Cast and Crew Got Super Uncomfortable With Naked Tooms

The X-Files is one of my favorite shows of all time. I enjoy watching Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) embark on their supernatural investigation adventures. They’ve faced off with strange creatures and monsters and dealt with aliens, UFOs, and government conspiracies. Some of those old conspiracies have been confirmed to be true now!

/Film recently pointed out a great bit of trivia that I had to share because any fan of The X-Files is sure to get a kick out of it. I sure did! This bit of behind-the-scenes info comes from Chris Carter in an old interview and it deals with the character Eugene Victor Tooms.

Tooms is an immortal serial killer who kills people to feed on their livers. This was such a fun character and he was played by Doug Hutchison, who wanted to take things to the next level of creepy with the character and it made the cast and crew super uncomfortable.

Tooms made his debut in the series in the show's third episode and he has the ability to fit into super small places to hide and hunt. He was really a creepy character! Well, there was one scene where Hutchison decided to get completely naked to perform a scene.

In the episode, Mulder and Scully find Tooms' lair and Mulder ends up being chased by Tooms in a small tunnel. In this scene, Tooms is completely naked as he chases after Mulder! Carter explains in the video below:

"[Hutchison] wanted to shoot the whole thing naked, was naked on the set, and it caused a little bit of discomfort, which was good. I think it actually added to the scene. I think David was very nervous about being in a little, tiny, confined space with a naked man, to be honest. I think it made the scare, the creep all [the] more real."

I would love to hear Duchovny’s thoughts on this and how he felt about all this while it was happening.
