The 1980s Sitcom HEAD OF THE CLASS Is Getting a Series Reboot for HBO Max
The 1980s ABC sitcom Head of the Class may end up back in session as HBO Max has ordered a pilot episode for a series reboot. They also ordered five additional scripts just in case the potential series gets a full-season order.
The reboot is said to be about “a group of overachieving high school students who meet their greatest challenge — a teacher who wants them to focus less on grades and more on experiencing life.”
The original series was created by Rich Eustis and Michael Elias, and it ran for five seasons from 1986 to 1991. The series centered around “a group of academically gifted high school students at the Millard Fillmore school in New York City, and their eccentric substitute history teacher Charlie Moore (Howard Hesseman). Hesseman’s character left the series after season 4, and a new unorthodox teacher named Billy MacGregor was introduced. He was played by Scottish comedian Billy Connolly.
Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen (American Vandal) will write the reboot, serve as co-showrunners, and executive produce the series. Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley are also co-showrunners and executive producers.
Head of the Class is one show from the 80s that I can honestly say I’ve never seen. But, here’s the opening of the series.
