The 4K Remaster of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE Is Now Available to Watch on Paramount+

The 4K remastered 1979 film Star Trek: The Motion Picture is now available to watch on Paramount+. This version of the film has been given a special effects makeover, and it includes a new “Directors Edition.”

Producer David C. Fein said in a statement, “I couldn’t be prouder and more thrilled to have completed the film in 4K. Paramount offered unprecedented access to the original elements and exceptional support and the results are stunning. Utilizing the latest discoveries and innovations of modern film production, The Director’s Edition delivers so much more today than was previously possible.”

Now, this isn’t the first time that the movie was re-released with updates. In 2001, the film’s director Robert Wise revisited the film and released his director’s cut with enhanced visuals on DVD. Now, 10 years later, after Wise’s death in 2005, we have this new version of the film to enjoy.

This latest 4K Ultra HD edition of the film was produced by David C. Fein and preservationist Mike Matessino and it also offers Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos.

The Director’s Edition in 4K is currently available to stream on Paramount+, and will arrive on Blu-ray in September. If you’ve been wanting to revisit the film, now is the time! Watch the trailer below!
