The Analogue Pocket May Improve Your Classic Handheld Gaming Experience

What have you done with all of your Game Boy game cartridges? Mine are mostly just sitting around in storage waiting for the day when I spring them on my children on long car rides. Well, Analogue may be able to give your games new life for you to enjoy. The Analogue Pocket is an upcoming handheld system designed to work with all Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance game cartridges. That’s right, this isn’t a simple emulation machine. This is a system that you put your old cartridges into in order to play. In addition, for other handhelds of days gone by like the Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, and many more, Analogue appears to be working on designing cartridge adapters to work with the Pocket.

The Pocket’s screen is a 3.5” LCD screen featuring 615 ppi and a 1600x1440 resolution. That’s roughly 10 times the resolution of the Game Boy. All the buttons you need are there as well including shoulder buttons and they’ll all be mappable. A rechargeable lithium ion battery powers the Pocket and that can be recharged via USB-C. There’s even a headphone port.

Another cool thing about the Analogue Pocket, is that there will be a Dock available to let you play your favorite handheld games on your television. You plug the Pocket into the Dock, connect a Bluetooth or USB controller, and you’re good to go.

Finally, the Pocket can do a little more than play your old games. Nanoloop, a digital audio workstation, has been built into it. This is a program that can allow for creators to compose their own music using the synthesizer and sequencer.

The Analogue Pocket will be available in 2020 for $199. You can sign up for the newsletter to hear the latest over on the official website.
