THE BATMAN Gotham City PD Spinoff Series Has Evolved into an Arkham Asylum Horror Series
As you know, The Batman director Matt Reeves has been developing a spinoff series that would focus on the Gotham City Police Department. Well, that series has evolved into something completely different. That spinoff will now focus on Arkham Asylum and its inmates. In the film, Arkham is referred to as Arkham State Hospital.
The news comes from Reeves himself during an interview with The Cyber Nerds. He also explained that the series would be like a horror haunted house story. The director explained:
"The GCDP thing, that story has kind of evolved. We've actually now moving more into the realm of exactly what would happen in the world of Arkham as it relates coming off of our movie, and some of the characters, again in their origins that you would – almost leaning into the idea of – it's like a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.
"The idea of, again the way that Gotham is a character in the movie, I really want Arkham to exist as a character, so that you go into this environment and encounter these characters in a way that feels really fresh. And so in our work on Gotham, that story started to evolve, and it started feeling, 'Wait, we should really lean into this.' And that's kind of where that's gone."
I love this idea! Arkham Asylum is a Batman setting that has always fascinated me. I’m a big fan of the Arkham Asylum video game franchise, and it will be awesome to see what Matt Reeves and his creative team do with the series. He did such a great job with The Batman, which offered fans a glimpse of Arkham Asylum, and it will be cool to see him build all of that out. It will also be fun and interesting to see what Batman villains will be featured in the series.
Arkham is a big place filled with lots of characters so it will be interesting to see explored. What do you think about Reeves developing an Arkham series instead of a Gotham City PD series?
