THE BATMAN - Jeffery Wright Teases THE LONG HALLOWEEN Inspiration and Peter Sarsgaard Offers Details on His Character

DC fans have a lot of questions regarding Matt ReevesThe Batman, and there are a lot of different opinions out there regarding the look of Batman’s suit and the Batmobile. I personally like what I’ve seen, and I’m looking forward to seeing more. While we wait for the director to show off more stuff, we’ve got a couple of other details to share with you.

Jeffery Wright, who plays Commissioner Gordon in the film, recently shared the following image, which teases that the film may be inspired by the classic Batman comic book “The Long Halloween”.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that this comic would serve as inspiration. Kevin Smith previously said he heard from a “good source” that the story for the film will be based on the classic comic book story arc. With the connections that Smith has with DC, this seems like it might be legit.

The Long Halloween was written by Jeph Loeb with artwork by Tim Sale, and the story is set during the early days of Batman's crimefighting career, as a killer is murdering people during the holidays. It takes place over the course of a year and includes several of Batman’s rogues gallery of villains.

I assume the film won’t be a direct adaptation, but it is most likely a heavy influence. The Long Halloween is one of the greatest Batman stories ever told, so I’m really hoping this is true.

During a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, actor Peter Sarsgaard also talked about his character and confirmed that he is playing Gotham City D.A., Gil Colson. He also shed some light on his personality and motivations, saying:

"Gil Colson, yeah yeah, and I’m a district attorney, and I’m basically a politician that has trouble telling the truth. I’m a pretty distasteful person in it.”

The movie also stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz, as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano will play the Riddler, Andy Serkis is set to play Alfred, John Turturro has been cast in the role of Carmine Falcone.

The Batman will be a noir-style film that will lean into Batman in his detective mode and will focus on his younger years, but not Year One. When previously talking about the film, Reeves said:

“It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that.”

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25th, 2021.
