THE BATMAN: PART 2 Reportedly Introduces Robin in What’s Being Called a “Big Swing” For Matt Reeves

A nw report claims that Matt Reeves is making a bold move with The Batman: Part II, and it could bring one of Gotham’s most legendary sidekicks back to the big screen.

According to The Insneider, the long-awaited sequel’s script features Robin, marking the character’s first major appearance in Reeves’ gritty Gotham. Insiders are describing the new direction as a “big swing” and say it will be “worth the wait.” The film is expected to begin shooting in spring 2026, with its release set for fall 2027.

Robin hasn’t been nearly as prominent in live-action film history as Batman himself. Chris O’Donnell donned the cape in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, while Joseph Gordon-Levitt played a reimagined version in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.

Meanwhile, James Gunn’s DCU has its own Batman and Robin project in development, The Brave and the Bold, with Andy Muschietti directing, though casting details remain under wraps.

The Batman: Part II has had a long road to production. First announced at CinemaCon 2022, it has faced multiple delays, shifting from an October 2025 release to October 2026, and finally landing on October 1, 2027.

Robert Pattinson will once again suit up as Bruce Wayne, joined by returning cast members Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon. Reeves is back in the director’s chair and co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin.

If these reports are accurate, fans might finally see a grounded, cinematic take on Robin woven into Reeves’ darker, detective-driven Gotham, something that could open the door for entirely new storytelling possibilities in the Batman mythos.
