THE BATMAN: PART II Could Be Robert Pattinson’s Final Run as the Dark Knight
The Batman: Part II is still more than two years away, but there’s already a big question mark hanging over the future of Robert Pattinson’s version of Gotham’s protector. Director Matt Reeves recently revealed that while the sequel is locked in, he’s not sure if The Batman: Part III will ever happen.
In a conversation with Josh Horowitz, Reeves admitted that he originally imagined a three-film arc for Bruce Wayne’s journey. But when asked about the possibility of a third installment, the director made it clear nothing is set in stone.
"The first story is so much about The Batman, and so I always wanted in the movies to make sure that, let's say we get to make three, and I have no idea [if we will get to make The Batman 3], but if we get to make three, I always wanted the movies to be focused on his character.”
That uncertainty might surprise some fans, especially since Reeves confirmed that the sequel’s script is already finished. He even revealed that he had “slipped the script to Rob,” which suggests that Pattinson is well aware of where Bruce’s story goes next.
Still, the director’s comments hint that The Batman: Part II could serve as the definitive end for this version of Gotham’s Dark Knight.
If the movie ends up doing well at the box office, then chances are we will see Part III get made. But, if James Gunn wants to put the spot light on his new version of Batman in The Brave and the Bold, maybe he’ll sideline Reeves’ third Batman film. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Then, part of the hesitation might also come from how long the sequel has taken to get off the ground, facing multiple delays and setbacks. Reeves also emphasized that his Batman saga will continue as a separate Elseworlds storyline.
Plot details for The Batman: Part II remain a closely guarded secret, though we know it will pick up after the events of The Penguin spin-off series. The movie will introduce a new villain, but Warner Bros. has yet to reveal who will be stepping into that role.
Production is expected to begin in Spring 2026, with the film scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
So while Reeves’ Gotham isn’t over just yet, fans may need to prepare themselves for the possibility that Pattinson’s Batman journey could wrap up with The Batman: Part II.
