THE BATMAN Spinoff Series About Arkham Asylum Hires THE STAIRCASE Creator Antonio Campos
HBO Max is pressing forward with producer Matt Reeves’ The Batman spinoff series that will focus on Arkham Asylum. It’s been announced that they’ve hired The Staircase creator Antonio Campos to write the series, direct, and serve as its showrunner and executive producer.
Campos is the third writer that’s been brought onto the DC project since it was originally announced back in July 2020. Hopefully, he’s the one that will be able to give the project that spark the studio and producers are looking for that will move it into production.
Terence Winter was originally working on the project when it was going to be about the Gotham City PD. He ended up leaving due to creative differences. Giri/Haji creator Joe Barton was then brought on board, but when the project shifted away from the police department to focus instead on the asylum, the studio and Baton parted ways.
Reeves is executive producing the Arkham Asylum show, and he previously described it as “like a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.” So, that’s gonna be a lot of fun!
Campos previously worked on shows that include USA Network crime anthology series The Sinner, and The Punisher. He also wrote and directed films such as Simon Killer, Afterschool, and The Devil All the Time. He seems like a sold choice for this Batman series, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens and what he comes up with.
