THE BATMAN Will Not Rehash Batman's Origin Story; It Will Focus on Bruce Wayne Becoming a "Genius Detective"
We’ve learned a few little bits here and there from director Matt Reeves about what he is panning for The Batman. He’s already said that that this will be a Batman noir tale and that it will focus on Batman in detective mode:
“It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He's supposed to be the world's greatest detective, and that's not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I'd love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it's going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
Don’t expect this movie to give us a rehash of Batman’s origin story, though. This is going to be a different kind of movie, one that involved Bruce Wayne becoming a genius detective. THR offers the following recent update:
"This new Batman needed to conform to a defined age bracket. He is written as around 30 years old, and the story is neither another re-hashing of his origin nor the tale of a seasoned crimefighter ruling Gotham City. He is Bruce Wayne still trying to find his footing on his way to becoming the genius detective."
That goes right along with what Reeves has been saying all along. I really love the direction that this film is headed, and it’s going to be so cool to see how it turns out! I like that it will be more of a psychological noir thriller.
Reeves is going to start shooting the film in 2020, and Robert Pattinson is the actor who will be taking on the role of detective Batman. The movie will also be filled with about a half a dozen rogues gallery villains, which could include Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, and more.
What do you think about the direction that Reeves is planning on taking this new Batman movie?
