THE BATMAN Writer Mattson Tomlin Seems to Be Teasing a Secret Superhero Project

There’s something brewing in the superhero movie world as The Batman Part II co-writer Mattson Tomlin recently dropped a mysterious tease that has fans speculating wildly about what comic book character he might be working on next.

It all started when a fan on social media asked Tomlin what other superhero he'd like to write besides Batman. His answer? A simple but loaded: “You’ll see.” That’s all it took to light up the internet with theories and possibilities.

Could Tomlin be jumping into another project within the evolving James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Universe? Or is this tease hinting at a new character being introduced in The Batman Part II?

With rumors swirling about potential appearances from the Bat-family in the sequel, it’s hard not to wonder if he’s already working behind the scenes on something major.

Tomlin has been steadily carving out a unique path in genre storytelling. He wrote the scripts for Project Power and Little Fish, wrote and directed Mother/Android, and is the creator behind the upcoming Netflix animated series Terminator Zero.

And while his work on The Batman went uncredited due to Writers Guild of America arbitration, he was still a crucial part of shaping that gritty Gotham story. Reflecting on the experience, Tomlin previouslky said:

“It was a painful thing to have happen. I put a lot of time and a lot of heart in. I had a really, really great time working with Matt [Reeves, the co-writer and director] on that first movie.”

He added:

“I wasn’t s—-ed over. Matt eventually came back and said, ‘Hey, do you want to come on from the beginning of this one?’”

That "this one" is, of course, The Batman Part II, which is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. With Tomlin officially back on board from the start, it’s clear that he’s playing a key creative role in shaping the next chapter of this cinematic Gotham.

Whether his cryptic “You’ll see” reply means a new DCU project, a Bat-family expansion, or something entirely unexpected, fans will definitely be watching closely.
