THE BEATLES First Look Photos Reveal Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, and Harris Dickinson as The Fab Four
Sony’s ambitious plan to bring The Beatles back to the big screen just took a very cool step forward. First look photos from The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event are officially out, giving fans their first proper glimpse at the actors stepping into the shoes of the most famous band of all time.
In a fun bit of guerrilla-style marketing, Sony printed four different postcards, each featuring one of the leads in character, and scattered them around the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts for students to discover.
It’s a clever nod to the band’s roots and a stylish way to kick off what’s shaping up to be one of the most talked-about biopic projects ever attempted.
The four films are being directed by Sam Mendes, who’s tackling the story from an angle Hollywood hasn’t really tried before. Each movie will focus on a single band member, giving their personal journeys room to breathe while still fitting into a larger narrative.
The cast lineup is stacked with serious talent. Harris Dickinson plays John Lennon, Paul Mescal takes on Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn embodies George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan steps in as Ringo Starr.
The images themselves place the actors in a recording studio setting, mid-session, and they absolutely look the part. From the hair to the posture to the vibe, it’s easy to imagine them laying down tracks that changed music forever.
Beatles fans are definitely going to argue over who nails their role the hardest, but the overall impression is strong. There’s a lot of star power here, which is probably a necessity considering how closely these films will be examined by fans and critics alike.
Production is already underway, and the supporting cast is just as impressive. Saoirse Ronan plays Linda McCartney, James Norton is Brian Epstein, Anna Sawai portrays Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood takes on Pattie Boyd, Harry Lloyd plays George Martin, and Mia McKenna-Bruce appears as Maureen Starkey.
The project was formally unveiled at CinemaCon last year, where Mendes appeared on stage alongside the four leads and explained exactly how big this swing really is.
“We’re not just making one film about the Beatles — we’re making four,” he told the crowd. “Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.”
The films are being produced through Neal Street Productions by Mendes, Pippa Harris, and Julie Pastor. The scripts come from an equally impressive group of writers, including Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne. With that creative lineup, expectations are understandably high.
Timing-wise, the project lands right in the middle of Hollywood’s ongoing love affair with music biopics. The Beatles remain the biggest-selling music act of all time according to the RIAA, and studios clearly see huge potential in telling these larger-than-life stories on a grand scale.
Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman summed up the studio’s mindset when he spoke with The Hollywood Reporter.
“You have to match the boldness of the idea with a bold release strategy,” Rothman said. “There hasn’t been an enterprise like this before, and you can’t think about it in traditional releasing terms.”
The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event is set to hit theaters in April 2028.
