THE BEEKEEPER 2 Director Says Jason Statham Will Be His Own Version of the Punisher

The Beekeeper 2 is moving forward, and director Timo Tjahjanto has revealed his vision for Jason Statham’s Adam Clay. According to the filmmaker, he plans to lean heavily into the qualities that make Marvel’s The Punisher such an iconic antihero.

In an interview with ScreenRant while promoting his upcoming movie Nobody 2, Tjahjanto explained why he took over the Beekeeper sequel from David Ayer.

“I’m definitely drawn to the Beekeeper series just because when I watched it, I always felt that, ‘Wow, this is essentially Statham playing one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe, which is The Punisher.’”

Tjahjanto went further, adding:

“If I can’t make The Punisher film, if the Gods of film aren’t allowing me to do a Punisher film yet, then I’ll turn Adam Clay into my own version of The Punisher.”

He also pointed out how naturally Statham fits into that mold:

“I think Statham has that quality in him. He has that very stoic Frank Castle-esque quality to him. And I love that Adam Clay is definitely a guy who is quite colorful in his choice of violence. He gets really, really creative with his violence.”

The director also teased what fans can expect when it comes to the villains in the sequel.

“Another thing that draws me is definitely the escalation of just how big the villains are in this film. So, you can wait for that.”

For now, Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed The Beekeeper 2 is in development, but the official release date has not been revealed yet.
