THE BIG BANG THEORY Spinoff Finally Gets a Title, and Stuart Bloom Is Front and Center
The world of The Big Bang Theory is expanding and it’s putting an unlikely hero in the spotlight. The upcoming spinoff on Max now has an official title: Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.
Kevin Sussman’s lovable yet perpetually down-on-his-luck Stuart Bloom is taking center stage in the series, and while it’s great to see Stuart leading his own show, the title doesn’t exactly scream "happily ever after" for the former comic book store owner.
Sussman won’t be alone in this new venture. The spinoff is set to bring back other Big Bang alums, including Lauren Lapkus as Stuart’s girlfriend, Denise, Brian Posehn as the socially awkward geologist Bert Kibbler, and John Ross Bowie as the hilariously lisping Barry Kripke.
However, while they’re all attached to the project, the series has yet to receive an official green light, with Warner Bros. Television holding talent deals for the cast until it moves forward.
Chuck Lorre, who co-created The Big Bang Theory and its spinoffs, is at the helm of the new series alongside Zak Penn and Bill Prady. Lorre’s track record in comedy speaks for itself, and Penn, known for his work on The Avengers and Ready Player One, is an interesting addition.
For years, Stuart was the underdog of The Big Bang Theory, a guy who could never quite catch a break. His comic book store was often struggling, his love life was rocky, and he always seemed to be on the outside looking in when it came to the core friend group.
But in later seasons, things started to turn around when he met Denise, a fellow geek who matched his passion for comics. His friendship with Raj also gave him a bit more purpose, but Stuart was never destined for smooth sailing.
With a title like Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, it’s clear that this new show isn’t setting him up for a fairytale ending. But that’s part of what made Stuart such a fan favorite character.
