Review: THE BOB'S BURGERS Movie Is Perfect For Fans Of The Show
I’m a big Bob’s Burgers fan. The show is so amazing, but I was a little dubious when I first heard about The Bob’s Burgers Movie. But I went to see it anyway, and wow, I was blown away with how good it was. Spoilers following so be warned if you haven’t watched it yet.
First up, the movie looked great. It was a little weird at first with just how smooth and nice the animation is compared to the show, but it doesn’t take long to get used to and they really put that big movie budget to good use. Not only was the animation just so smooth and lovely in the movements, but they went nuts with the dance numbers. Any fan of the show knows they have pretty elaborate song and dance numbers every so often, but the movie took everything you love about those moments and made them bigger and better. Longer songs with more intricate choreography and just the exact right number of songs so that it didn’t feel like a musical.
The story was good too, it ended up reminding me a lot of the two-parter episodes, Wharf Horse. The kind of murder mystery aspect of it was great. The main focus was on the Bob and Linda story of trying to get the money for their business loans while dealing with a massive sinkhole in front of the restaurant and Louise who was trying to solve a years old murder to prove she is not a baby.
Each of the kids have their own problems: Tina is wondering if real romance can ever live up to fantasy, Gene is wondering if he wasn’t actually meant to make music, and Louise has to overcome the tauntings of Chloe Barbash about being a scared baby. My only real complaint is that Gene didn’t get much time to deal with his problems, but I recognize that there really wasn’t much room for them to flesh it out more than they did and it did have a satisfying conclusion.
They did a really good job at bringing in a lot of past characters like Critter and Mickey, though sadly due to the huge number of past characters they couldn’t bring everyone in. But many characters who didn’t get a chance to be in the movie did get to strut their stuff in the credits so that’s fun. But I will always love the way that the two different storylines of the parents and kids will end up coming together to end in a really great scene of the family in the car.
While stuck in a car and being buried alive by the villain, we get a really amazing scene about how Louise really got her hat and the connection between it and Bob’s mother. And there’s a great moment between Bob and Linda that really shows how much they love and care about each other. Honestly, this scene took the movie to another level for me and it was already great.
If you are a fan of Bob’s Burgers, you really need to go see The Bob’s Burgers Movie. If you aren’t familiar with the show I think it can still be enjoyed, but there are definitely jokes that won’t hit right if you don’t have some baseline knowledge about a lot of the characters, especially those side characters. But overall, I loved it, I really want to go back to the theater and watch it again already, 10/10.
