THE BOOK OF ELI Prequel Series in Development with John Boyega Set to Star

Denzel Washington’s 2010 post-apocalyptic action film The Book of Eli is getting a prequel series and John Boyega is set to star in and executive produce the series. The film’s original writer, Gary Whitta (Rogue One), created the series and is also writing and executive producing it.

Boyega will play a younger version of Washington’s Eli character from the movie, which takes place 30 years after a nuclear catastrophe caused an ecocide. The story in the film follows Eli, a nomad who fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation.

There aren’t a lot of details about the story, but it’s reported that it will be set 30 years prior to the events in the film, which would be set during the time of the nuclear devastation or its immediate aftermath.

The Book of Eli was a solid movie, and this could very well end up being a really cool series. I am curious to see how it turns out and it should make for an exciting project for Boyega to take on.

Alcon Entertainment is producing the project, which is about to be taken out to select premium buyers.
