THE BOONDOCKS Revival Confirmed To Be Coming in 2022
A couple of years ago, it was announced that HBO Max picked up a two-season revival of the animated series The Boondocks with creator Aaron McGruder leading the charge. The series has been in production for a while, but it’s taken longer than expected due to behind-the-scenes issues.
For those of you who have been wondering when the revival will finally be released, McGruder has confirmed on the official Instagram that it’s coming in 2022. The page's bio reveals that The Boondocks reboot is now scheduled for a release in 2022. The new series was originally announced for Fall 2020, launching with a 50-minute special on the HBO Max streaming service.
The series will “follow the adventures of self-proclaimed ‘Civil Rights Legend’ Robert ‘Granddad’ Freeman, and his two rambunctious grandsons Huey and Riley. The family has recently moved to an idyllic community in suburban Maryland only to see it taken over by the tyrannical Uncle Ruckus and his bizarre neo-fascist regime. Life under Ruckus turns out to be an everyday struggle to survive.”
McGruder had this to say in a previous statement:
“There’s a unique opportunity to revisit the world of ‘The Boondocks’ and do it over again for today. It’s crazy how different the times we live in are now – both politically and culturally – more than a decade past the original series and two decades past the original newspaper comic. There’s a lot to say and it should be fun.”
Have you been looking forward to the return of The Boondocks?
